Enticing Rice… How to cook rice


Her name is Rice… seductress of an array of cultures around the world. She is voluminous, versatile, generous, consistent, and easy… yes, she get’s around.. ok I didn’t only mean it in that way, rice is easy to make. What you do with the basic rice recipe after that only lays in your fantasies.

Ok now that you have gotten to know Ms. Rice, let’s make some!

White Rice

What you need:

  • 1 Cup of White rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons Olive Oil or Butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • salt

Rule of Thumb: For every 1 Cup of White rice add 2 cups of water .
So 2 cups of white rice would be 4 cups of water.

How To:

1. On Medium high heat, in a pot drizzle in the oil.
2. Once oil is hot yet not smoking (this is too hot, lower the heat) add the 2 garlic cloves. Stir around until the cloves are a golden color.
3. Add the cup of white rice. Stir around so that the olive oil gets on all the grains of rice.
4. Add 1 cup of water and 2 teaspoons of salt. Bring the heat up so that it is boiling.
5. Once the water gas evaporated to the point you can see the rice add the second cup of water, cover with a lid and bring down the heat to low.
6. Cook for another 10 minutes. The whole process should only take 15 minutes.

Brown Rice

What You Need:

  • 1 Cup of Brown Rice
  • 4 Cups of water
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons of Olive Oil or Butter
  • 2 Cloves of Garlic
  • Salt

Rule of Thumb: For every 1 Cup of Brown rice add 2 ½ cups of water.
So 2 cups of Brown rice would be 5 cups of water.

How to:

1. On Medium high heat, in a pot drizzle in the oil or butter.
2. Once oil/butter is hot, not smoking (this is too hot, lower the heat) add the 2 garlic cloves. Stir around until the cloves are a golden color.
3. Add the cup of Brown Rice. Stir around so that the olive oil/butter gets on all the grains of rice.

5. Once the water has evaporated to the point you can see the rice add the second cup of water, cover with a lid and bring down the heat to low.
6. Cook for another 40 minutes. The whole process should only take 45 minutes total.
